Lisa Colletti

Lisa M. Colletti, M.D. is Professor of Surgery in the Section of General Surgery and Chief of the Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery at the University of Michigan Hospitals. Dr. Colletti received her undergraduate training at the University of Michigan, with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, and her medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School. She completed her surgical internship and residency at the University of Michigan Hospitals, and was appointed as one of the Administrative Chief Residents prior to joining the faculty in 1991.

Dr. Colletti has completed an Advanced Laparoscopic training course and has an active laparoscopic practice, in addition to her practice in gastrointestinal surgery. She is board certified in General Surgery and also holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Surgical Critical Care. Dr. Colletti is an active participant in the Multidisciplinary GI Tumor Clinic and Tumor Board. Special interests include the treatment of pancreatic and biliary cancer, neoplastic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, biliary reconstruction, and advanced laparoscopic surgery.

Dr. Colletti has had an ongoing interest in surgical education, at both the resident and medical student level and was the recipient of the University of Michigan’s Kaiser Permanente Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching for the year 2000; she also received national recognition for her teaching by receiving the Association for Surgical Education’s “Outstanding Teacher Award” for the year 2001. She has previously served as the Associate Chair for Education in the Department of Surgery and Program Director for the General Surgery Residency Program prior to her appointment as the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education. Prior to her appointment as the General Surgery Residency Program Director, she was the Surgery Clerkship Director for the Medical School, and as such was responsible for the surgical curriculum for junior and senior medical students. She has participated on many committees related to educational efforts including the Medical School Executive Admissions Committee, the Medical School Curriculum Review Committee and the Curriculum Review Subcommittee, the Graduate Medical Education Review Board, and the Program Directors Committee.

Dr. Colletti’s research interests center around the role of cytokines and chemokines in liver injury, repair and regeneration. She has an active basic science research laboratory and her research is funded through the National Institutes of Health. She is also a collaborator in the GI Oncology Program.
