Application Process: How to Apply

Thank you for your interest in applying to the University of Michigan Medical School! All applicants must complete a preliminary application through the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) in order to be considered for admission.

New Process for Letters of Recommendation:

For the 2009 application year (beginning with June 2008 AMCAS applications) the U-M Medical School will be participating in a pilot program: The AMCAS Letter of Recommendation Service. We will be accepting Letters of Recommendation ONLY through this new process initiated by AMCAS. The University of Michigan is one of approximately 20 pilot schools for this process.

ALL letters of recommendation must be submitted via the AMCAS Letter Service. During the application process, there will be a new section asking for your Letter of Recommendation information. Please consult the AMCAS instructions for additional details.

At the University of Michigan, we will not accept any Letters of Recommendation sent directly to the medical school. Any letters we receive will not be accepted, will not be placed in your application file nor will they be retained in any other form.

To summarize:

Once your application has been processed by AMCAS, you will receive an email with a link to the University of Michigan Medical School secondary application. You will also receive a link to your official status web page, where you will be able to check the status of your application regularly. Our admissions process is transparent. We feel applicants deserve to know where they stand at any given time. Please feel free to contact the Admissions Office with any questions.

We have developed a tool for applicants to use while considering where to attend medical school. We invite you to take the Medical School Comparison Worksheet as you visit other campuses.
