Student Life: International Opportunities

ImageAt Michigan, there are great opportunities for international service work and clinical experiences. Our students have a very strong interest in international health, and there is no shortage of resources available to help you get involved.

Each year, dozens of our medical students go around the world, often with the help of Global REACH (Research, Education And Collaboration in Health). This Michigan Medical School program helps students find and fund medical experiences in countries like China, India, Ecuador, Nepal, Egypt and Zimbabwe, to name a few.

Many students use vacation breaks to join short-term medical missions through international relief organizations, churches and humanitarian agencies. Some of our students have even started international projects on their own, like the Quito Project.

While many of these once-in-a-lifetime adventures in medicine are non-credit, students who meet administrative requirements can elect to take a for-credit international rotation elective in their third or fourth years.
