Student Life: Campus Scene
Trust us when we say you can – and will – have a life outside
of Medical School at Michigan. Whether it's to attend a football game, keep
up with your passion for dance and music, or play an intramural sport
like Broomball, our program offers the time and flexibility you need to
keep a balance.
As a med student, you will encounter graduate students from all over the world and other areas of study including law, business and public health – just to name a few. It’s easy to make connections with others graduate students and professionals on campus while pursuing whatever it is you find entertaining, enriching, exciting or relaxing.
Here are a few options:Life Sciences Orchestra – A symphonic orchestra whose members are from the University of Michigan life sciences community, including the Medical School. Visit the Life Sciences Orchestra Web site.
Biorhythms - a medical student dance company that performs twice a year. Dances performed reflect the students' backgrounds in style ranging from ballet to tap to modern, from Indian folk to ballroom.
Auscultations - an a cappella singing group that provides entertainment at musical and choral events.
Collegiate Sports - The Michigan Wolverines inspire heated passions in even the most subdued student. Football Saturdays are a tradition in the fall, plus other teams like basketball, hockey, track and swimming provide excitement year round. Students are guaranteed tickets to every sporting event — just another great reason to "Hail to the Victors!" Learn more about our Collegiate Sports.
Intramural Sports - At Michigan, intramural sports come in all varieties, ranging from 3-on-3 basketball, soccer and broomball to sand volleyball, water polo and tennis. Club sport options are also available, like Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, fencing, sailing, table tennis and synchronized figure skating.
Fitness Centers - Students are welcome to use one of the three campus rec centers. You’ll find running tracks, swimming pools, free weight and fitness rooms and courts for basketball, volleyball and badminton — whatever you like to keep physically fit. There are also several private health clubs in Ann Arbor, as well as a new YMCA facility on the Old West Side and numerous yoga and fitness studios throughout town.
The University of Michigan Department of Recreational Sports can hook you up with day trips, weekend adventures and even Spring Break treks.
Student Clubs and Organizations
Many students are members of official Medical School committees and local chapters of national organizations. Both are excellent opportunities to refine your leadership skills while participating in something worthwhile.
