Dear Student,

Congratulations on your MCAT performance! Now it's time to apply to medical school, and we invite you to put the University of Michigan Medical School at the top of your list.

Here are just a few highlights of what we have to offer to future leaders of medicine:

Merit

World-class medical education — The University of Michigan Medical School consistently ranks among the top medical schools (#8 for Primary Care and #12 for Research) and received one of the top five highest scores by Residency Program Directors from across the country. (U.S. News and World Report, 2015 Best Graduate Schools)

100% of our graduates matched to one of their ranked programs (nearly 6% higher than the national average) — We help you prepare for your ideal residency match.

Education

Innovative curriculum — We foster a community of learners and engage students through a systems-based approach with integrated case-based learning and unique content beyond the core. We are one of 11 med schools that's been awarded a $1.1 million grant from the American Medical Association to even better prepare students to lead health care change on a global scale.

M-Home — Small group settings provide students with longitudinal learning experiences while developing meaningful professional relationships with future colleagues across their four years of training. Our dedicated faculty serves as teachers, mentors and advisors to foster a collaborative learning environment, professional development and a connection with the greater Medical School community.

Connect with families and patients — Understanding the personal and humanistic aspects of medicine through firsthand encounters with patients and their families is a critical part of our curriculum. Clinical exposure begins very early in your education through the Doctoring course. Our patients and families open their lives and give students invaluable training that cannot be duplicated in any classroom.

Paths of Excellence — Students can gain scholarship and leadership application in a specific health care area of interest through a Path of Excellence. Current Paths include Global Health & Disparities, Ethics, Health Policy & Economics, and Quality & Safety, with more options coming. Students apply during the fall of M1 year.

Collaboration

Research — Michigan Medical School’s grants and awards total more than $470 million, ranking us among the top schools and creating plenty of research opportunities for med students.

Dual Degrees — Our med school is closely located to other top-ranked schools in Public Health, Engineering, Social Work, Law and Business on the greater University campus.

Student-led projects — Our expert faculty help students turn innovative ideas that move the world forward into action, like student group-sponsored service projects or working to close the gap through the Health Equity Scholars Program and Student Run Free Clinic.

Support

Transparent admissions process — We let you know early and often about where you stand through your personal status page accessed through our website or free mobile app.

Scholarships — Every admitted student is eligible for a recruitment scholarship, and we award grants to about 35% of all incoming students.

School/life balance — The med school’s curriculum and programs prove that your quality of life matters as much as the quality of your learning by giving you room to explore your passions.

Life

Diversity — Diversity is valued in all its forms to create an optimal learning environment. Our Office for Health Equity and Inclusion supports students from various backgrounds with a deep desire to eliminate health inequities and serve the underserved.

More than half of our student body is made up of out-of-state residents — People from all corners of the world come to Ann Arbor to study, work and live in an eclectic urban environment.

Every doctor of tomorrow starts somewhere. We hope you'll consider becoming one of the victors valiant by applying to the University of Michigan Medical School.
