Curriculum: Faculty
Passing on Passion
Michigan’s faculty is among the best in the nation. It is the scope
of their individual accomplishments and the quality of their teaching that
lend Michigan graduates virtually instant credibility in the world of medicine.
Even more important is the critical role our physician-professors play in
inspiring empathy and self-confidence in our students.
Many of our faculty members have received national recognition as leaders in their fields. Many more have been at the forefront of life-changing research in such fields as cancer, genetics and pediatrics. All come to Michigan with experience gained and accolades won at many of the most prestigious medical facilities in the world.
While faculty accomplishments are to be expected at a top medical school, it is their passion that brings our medical education to life. Faculty members have a deep personal commitment to helping students become the future leaders of health care. They hold students in the highest regard and truly value their insight and contribution, whether in the classroom, lab or on the ward. Faculty-student communication happens on a daily basis: in the classroom, stopping for a chat in the hospital hallway, via email.
Michigan faculty truly see themselves as mentors from the very beginning of a student's career. They are inspired and enthused by the energy and commitment they see in our students, and willingly give of their time to nurture this in return.
