James F. Peggs, M.D., serves as Assistant Dean for Student Programs with primary responsibility for Career Specialty Counseling and Student Wellness Programs.
A native of southeast Michigan, Dr. Peggs is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a bachelor of science degree in biology. After earning his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine, he completed a residency in Family Medicine at Lancaster General Hospital in Lancaster, Pa. In 1978, he joined the U-M faculty and established the Family Medicine teaching and clinical practice in nearby Chelsea. Dr. Peggs was board certified in Family Medicine in 1978 and has been recertified every seven years. He also obtained additional fellowship training in Geriatrics and holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Geriatrics. Clinical areas of particular interest are sleep disorders in the elderly, urinary incontinence and movement disorders in the elderly.
Dr. Peggs has been actively engaged in medical education for many years, including service on the Medical School’s Admissions Committee, Admissions Executive Committee, Curriculum Policy Committee, Academic Review Boards, Clerkship Director for Family Medicine Clerkship, Director of M3 Seminars, and Small Group Leader for the Family Centered Experience.
