UMMS Conflict of Interest Committee (MEDCOI)

UMMS has appointed a Medical School Conflict of Interest Board to review disclosures by faculty members and/or professional staff and to recommend appropriate conflict management if appropriate. This Board is advisory to the Dean of the University of Michigan Medical School and the Office of the Vice President of Research ("OVPR") .

The OVPR has charged the Medical School Conflict of Interest Board to review sponsored projects in light of state and federal requirements as well as any sponsored project or technology transfer matter that triggers the State of Michigan Conflict of Interest Law . UMMS also had charged this Board with implementing internal UMMS policies related to COI and Conflict of Commitment (COC), which predate the federal requirements.

The Board will review annual disclosures from all faculty; develop and interpret policies and procedures related to COI or COC and non-compliance; provide a mechanism for appeal; and report any unresolved issues to the University.

Note: The Clinical and Educational Conflict of Interest Committee handles COI issues related to the educational and patient care missions of the UMMS.
