Effective May 1, 2014, The Department of Medical Education was renamed the Department of Learning Health Sciences. Under our new name and mission, the department will carry out a significantly expanded program of education, research, and service. The department will focus on the concept of learning as it applies to all levels in the context of health. These areas include:

The Department of Learning Health Sciences is among the first in the nation with such a broad scope and positions the University of Michigan to be the epicenter of an accelerating academic movement focused on Learning Health Systems. The expanded programs of the department will be described in more detail on our new website.

Services We Provide

A new division of Learning and Knowledge Systems will be the focus of department activities that address learning in large scale settings.

The department retains a long-standing expertise in:

The Clinical Simulation Center based in the department, offers UMHS faculty, staff and trainees state-of-the-art simulator-based training in specific techniques – and is a rich environment for evaluating and improving how such techniques are taught.

We offer our services to the entire U-M Health Sciences community.
