MCDTR Community Outreach and Engagement Core
The MCDTR Community Outreach and Engagement Core is designed to facilitate the translation of research that has demonstrated efficacy into real world populations, health care settings, and communities by providing MCDTR investigators with access to patients, providers, health systems, and communities and with expertise and support in community engagement, intervention implementation, and dissemination with special focus on health disparities, cultural competence, and community-based participatory research. The Specific Aims of the Core are:
- To provide MCDTR investigators with access to patients, providers, health care organizations, and communities and with regional and national networks working to improve the prevention and treatment of diabetes.
- To provide MCDTR investigators technical assistance and training in health disparities, cultural competence, and community-based participatory research (CBPR) approaches and skills.
The Core will achieve these specific aims by providing the following key services:
- Assistance in implementing innovative engagement strategies for patients, providers, health care organizations, practice-based networks, regional and national networks, and communities,
- Extended targeted technical assistance and training to researchers, trainees, and partners in health disparities, cultural competence, and community-based participatory research,
- Education and career development opportunities that promote co-learning among Center members and their community partners to expand community capacity and involvement in the development and evaluation of translational research projects and
- Developing capacity, methods, and specific tools for the effective dissemination and implementation of interventions across patients, health care systems, and communities.
