Medical Equipment Management (MEMS)

Charging Process

Patients are charged daily for equipment use. These charges are based on a twenty four hour period and are not broken down into smaller intervals (i.e. an hourly charge). When equipment is ordered, the patient's information is entered into MEMS (Medical Equipment Management System, which generates the first day's charge. The equipment in use is tracked daily by the Patient Equipment staff by hand held computers. Once they have rounded all of the inpatient floors, they return to Patient Equipment and download the information into MEMS. Patient Equipment staff run daily charges for all equipment in use.

Usage Reports Available
In Use	Sorts by unit to show usage of each specific piece of equipment.
History	Shows historically what equipment has been used on which patient.
Trend	Shows the daily average usage by unit of each specific piece of equipment.
Quality Assutance	Provides information on units not complying with quality guidelines set forth by this institution (i.e. equipment being transferred from one patient to another without being returned to Patient Equipment first for cleaning).
