Central Sterile Processing Department (CSPD)

Certified Central Sterile Processing Department (CSPD) staff decontaminates, inspects, assembles processes and sterilizes reusable instrument trays, basins, linens and individual instruments.  Available services include steam sterilization, Ethylene oxide (Et O gas) sterilization, dry heat sterilization and pasteurization.  Central Sterile Processing Department does not perform "flash" sterilization.  CSPD will sterilize or pasteurize unit owned supplies that are properly prepared and accompanied by a requisition. Reprocessing of single-use patient care items must comply with Infection Control Policy.  (See ICC Guidelines for Processing Disposable Products on the Infection Control Services website)

Tray assembly is provided for all non-OR areas.  Pictures of all items produced by CSPD may be viewed in the MSC catalog.  CSPD employs an event related sterility policy.  Sterilized items will not have an expiration date.  These items may be used as long as the integrity of the package is not compromised by becoming torn, wet, damaged or suspected of being compromised.  For consultation regarding packaging, processing or sterilization of items, contact the CSS staff at:
