| Standardized Patient Instructor | |
| A Standardized Patient Instructor (SPI) participates in the teaching and assessment of medical students at the University of Michigan Medical School. | |
| Standardized Patient Program activities offer students the opportunity to develop, practice and enhance their medical interviewing skills, communication skills and physical exam techniques. | |
| The Standardized Patient Instructor will be trained extensively to portray a specific case for which the student will do a brief medical interview and/or a focused physical examination. Standardized Patient Instructors are also trained to provide the students with constructive feedback regarding their performance. | |
| Standardized Patient Instructors report to Standardized Patient Program Case Coordinators and the Program Director. | |
| Standardized Patient Instructors are temporary employees of the University of Michigan Medical School, however do not receive any additional benefits associated with the University. | |
| Standardized Patient Program Requirements: |

| • SPIs MUST meet specific case criteria. • SPIs MUST be available for both training and interview/exam sessions. • Educational training and/or professional experience in health professions, communication, behavioral sciences or education preferred. • SPIs MUST be reliable, punctual and dependable. • SPIs MUST have excellent communication skills and be willing and able to provide students with constructive feedback regarding their performance on the exercise. |

| • $12/hour for training and debriefing sessions. • Starting Pay: $20/hour for student interview sessions. |

| Hours: | |
| • All positions are part-time and/or seasonal. • SPIs usually work between 3-8 hours per week. |
