HISTOLOGY: COURSE INFO

In Histology, students examine the structure and correlated function of tissues and organs of the human body, and are introduced to basic concepts in embryology. Students also examine the basic pathologic abnormalities that affect tissue and organ function, including mechanisms of cell injury and inflammation. Histology course content is strongly correlated with that of the Physiology and Host Defenses courses. Each class period begins with a one-hour lecture; the remaining three hours are spent in laboratory. Laboratory work involves examining slides and micrographs, case-based discussions, and reviewing images on ATLAS-plus, a computerized software program developed at the University of Michigan Medical School which integrates text, microscope slide images, and animation to teach basic concepts and principles.
