We are all victims and perpetrators of assumptions. She assumes he’s sick and unhappy about it. He assumes she’s smart and self-assured. I assume you’re arrogant when you’re shy and you assume I’m up when I’m down.

This project is an effort to break down the walls built around patients due to the misperceptions and biases constantly formed by others.

Walking through life, down this one-way avenue
My scars and my bruises tell a journey I’ve been through. Your downcast stare, it cuts through the air Oh why do you turn away, tell me do you think it’s fair?

I’ll try to explain, but know that it takes stages. One thing I’ve learned, ignorance is contagious.

And I wanna break the walls down for you to see I’m not the made-up story you believe. Cuz underneath it all you’ll find the same bright light that shines to you shines through to me.

A parade of pity imagines a life of despair No joy, No laughter - That’s not the story I’ll share. Life turned a page, a new chapter prescribed I smile, take chances - I’m not what you have contrived.

So what’s it gonna take to be a change and not a voice at stake? Our lives put to the test, so much to know I must confess. So tear off the label, and realize that I’m able. This is my plea, for you.
