Policies

Smoking, eating, and drinking are not allowed in the LRC. This includes the lobby, the computer cluster, the study rooms, and the Clinical Skills areas. All Information Technology Policies and Guidelines are in effect when using LRC computers.


Available Hardware and Software

The Computer Cluster has 27 iMac computers, 15 G4 Macintosh computers, and 48 Dell Windows 2000 computers, all of which have access to network servers and the Internet.

A variety of software is available, including communications (e-mail and web access), word processing, spreadsheet, database, graphics, and programming languages. Specialty software for Medical School courses is also available, such as Neurologic and CARDIAX (Cardiovascular sequence and Internal Medicine rotation).

There are study carrels available which house a variety of audiovisual hardware, including 35 mm slide projectors, microfiche readers, and VHS (1/2") and 3/4" video players with monitors. Microscopes are available, as are a variety of instructional slides, audio tapes, videotapes, models, and medical instruments.


Instructions and Assistance

The LRC computer cluster is staffed by both full and part-time computer consultants who can assist you if you have questions.

The How-to section of the LRC website provides documentation useful to users of our computer software and hardware. The How-to section will be populated with additional documents as they become available.

Available Computing Courses

The LRC does not hold regular workshops of its own, but rather the computer cluster is used by various departments and schools as a space to hold workshops on specific topics pertaining to their subject. For example, Taubman Medical Library staff frequently conduct UM-MEDSEARCH workshops in the LRC (See Taubman Medical Library for more details on UM-MEDSEARCH workshops).
