Learning Resource Center Lab

 

 

Location: 3950 LRC (Third Floor of the Taubman Medical Library). Map

Access: Any member of the University of Michigan community with a Uniqname and UMICH(Kerberos) password.

The lab is a Quiet Study zone.

LRC Hours of Operation:

Summer Hours:
Monday thru Friday: 8:00am- 5:00pm
Medstudents have 24/7 access via Mcard Reader

Reduced or restricted access during Medical School exams and quizzes, workshops and holidays will be posted at the Cluster.

 


Computers:
• 21 G5 iMacs with 17" flat screen monitors and can read and write CDs/DVDs.
• 80 Dell Computers with 17” flat screens and can read and write CDs/DVDs.

All computers are equipped with stereo headphones. The Dell computers have internal card readers for a variety of memory cards. Users can check out external zip drives at the Help Desk for use.

Wireless: The UMHS-Open (uniqname/kerberous password required) and UMHS-Wireless (registration with MCIT required) available. For more information please go to: Wireless Computing at Med School

Laptop Stations: 7 desks are set-up as laptop stations with power and an ethernet connection.

Scanning: There are 8 scanners attached to both PCs and Macs throughout the lab.

Printing: Three high speed black and white laser printers support the basic printing needs of the Computer Cluster. There is an additional color printer which can be used (40 cents per copy). The Media Island (description below) also provides color ink-jet printing. Those who using laptops can print to the LRC lab by using "mPrint."

Copying: There is a black and white copier with MCard copy service. An active Mcard is needed. All copies made come out of your printing allotment.

Staff Assistance: Help Desk staff are available to assist users during open lab hours. Full-time computer consultants are available for advanced questions and support during normal business hours.

Additional Resources:

• Media Island: Two computers (G5 iMac and Dell, each with 17” flat screens) are available for those working with graphics. Each computer has a flat bed scanner and a color ink-jet printer.

Furstenberg Student Study Center (FSSC)

Location: 2727 Medical Science Building II.

Access: Restricted to medical students.

Hours: 24/7 card key access.

Computers:

• 10 iMac G5s with 17" Monitors and read/write CDs and DVDs

• 11 Dell Computers with 17” flat screens (CD read/write, DVD playback).

All computers are equipped with stereo headphones.

Printing: 2 high speed black and white laser printer supports the basic printing needs of the lab.

Scanning: 3 Scanners (2 on the Dells, 1 on a imac G5).

Staff Assistance: Help Desk staff in the main LRC Computer Cluster are available to assist users during LRC Computer Cluster hours. Full-time computer consultants are available for advanced questions and support during normal business hours.

E-mail Express Stations

Location: Lobby of the LRC (third floor of the Taubman Medical Library Building).


Access: Any member of the University of Michigan community with a Uniqname and UMICH password.


Computers: 4 iMac G5 computers available for email (10 minute limit).


Printing: Not available.


Software available: Internet Explorer, Mulberry Email client.
