Case 1:

JF is a 42-year old previously healthy farmer who presented with sudden onset central chest pain of one hour duration to the ED. The pain is associated with sweating and radiates to the left arm and jaw. The area of discomfort is about the size of the fist.

It is important to note that 80% of all sudden cardiac deaths occur in persons with known cardiovascular disease [1]. Accordingly, family members of AMI patients should be taught CPR [2] because most episodes of cardiac arrest occur within 18 months of hospital discharge [3].
