Masters Leadership Series

Purpose
The purpose of the Masters Series Leadership Program is to provide an opportunity for UMHS managers to attain the leadership competencies needed to successfully guide UMHS through today’s constantly changing environment and into the future.

This workshop is a combination of assessment, discussion, skill practice exercises, and practical application. It is highly experiential and interactive. Participants learn from each other, discover through exploration of resources, role play, and story telling based on past experiences, and work with each other to complete assignments.

Framework
Change management serves as the foundation for the workshop and the framework for linkage to all of the other concepts, competencies, and tools. Each participant and his or her manager select an undertaking connected to the work area that will be analyzed during the workshop and after. Each participant will be expected to make a presentation to a panel which will include their manager about a month after the workshop is finished. The goal of the presentation is to give the panel enough information to decide if the proposed project merits moving into detailed analysis and design.

Participants will do an analysis and build a preliminary business case as the basis for their presentation. The workshop content will provide the know-how to do this work.

Performance
Successful leaders possess a diverse array of skills and knowledge. The workshop content reflects this diversity as seen in the outline on the next page.

This workshop is challenging, demanding, fun and rewarding. Each participant will work with his or her manager to select developmental goals to attain from attending the workshop. Each participant and his or her manager will be contacted three and six months after the conclusion of the workshop to measure progress toward the identified goals.

Participants should come prepared for a novel learning experience, one where they will explore themselves, and their leadership, learning and communication styles. They will immerse themselves in the information that surrounds them and work with others to build practical skills.
