I am delighted that you have chosen to explore the opportunities that the University of Michigan Internal Medicine Residency Program has to offer. Our program is committed to your development as an internist independent of whether you are heading toward a career in primary care or desire to continue your education with subspecialty training. First and foremost, the programmatic leadership has an unwavering commitment to the development of the residents. Our team, which includes the Program Director for Medicine-Pediatrics, as well as the Associate Program Directors, collaborates intensely to map out a path, which encompasses your development as an internist as well as an individual. The greatest strength of the program is our Residents. The program has been fortunate to attract talented residents who in addition to having performed in outstanding fashion academically have tremendous qualities as individuals. The Department of Medicine has had a long tradition of excellence in the tripartite mission of academia including education, patient care and research. Our faculty members are among the best in the nation and represent a wide array of expertise extending from physician scientists involved in state-of-the-art biomedical investigation to master clinicians who are world renowned for their clinical expertise.
The University of Michigan Hospital is a state-of-the-art tertiary care center, which attracts patients from throughout the state as well as nation wide. Residents will not only experience the unique patient care within a tertiary care center like the University Hospital, but will also spend time in the VA Hospital which complements the clinical experience tremendously. To further enhance the ambulatory experience of our trainees, the Department of Medicine has successfully developed a series of primary care sites throughout the Ann Arbor and adjoining communities which complements the experience of our residents. Your development as an internist will be guided by a full-time faculty who believe in the tripartite mission of academic medicine. We believe in providing greater responsibility and ever-increasing autonomy which is essential for your development. Integral components of the program which will assure your success include a mentoring program whereby residents are matched with faculty members who represent the resident's area of interest. Your interest in our program is greatly appreciated, and I look forward to hearing from you in the future.
