StandifordTheodore J. Standiford, M.D. Dr. Standiford is a Professor of Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical Center. Dr. Standiford received his M.D. degree from Wayne State University, Detroit , MI . He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Minnesota , Minneapolis , MN , and Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship at the University of Michigan , Ann Arbor , MI . Dr. Standiford's research interests include the investigation of innate immune mechanisms and the molecular control of innate responses. Dr. Standiford serves as the Program Director of the ALI SCCOR, and the PI of Project 2 and the Administrative Core.

KunkelSteven L. Kunkel, Ph.D. Dr. Kunkel is an Endowed Professor of Pathology in the Department of Pathology at the University of Michigan Medical Center. Dr. Kunkel received his Ph.D. from the University of Kansas and completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the University of Connecticut . Dr. Kunkel's research interests include the investigation of chemokine biology and the contribution of chemokines to innate immune responses in sepsis and sepsis-induced multiple organ injury. Dr. Kunkel serves as the PI of Project 1.

ThannickalVictor J. Thannickal, M.D. Dr. Thannickal is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical Center. Dr. Thannickal received his M.D. degree from Oral Roberts University , Tulsa , OK . He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Oklahoma , Tulsa , OK , and Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship at Tufts-New England Medical Center , Boston , MA . Dr. Thannickal's research interests include the investigation of fibroblast biology and molecular mechanisms controlling fibroblast proliferation, differentiation, and cell signaling. Dr. Thannickal serves as the PI of Project 3.

PaineRobert Paine III, M.D. Dr. Paine is a Professor of Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical Center. Dr. Paine received his M.D. degree from Washington University , St. Louis , MO. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Yale- New Haven Hospital , New Haven , CT , and Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship at Boston University , Boston , MA . Dr. Paine's research interests include the investigation of alveolar epithelial cell biology and factors that control epithelial cell growth, differentiation, and immune responses. Dr. Paine serves as the PI of Project 4.

HyzyRobert C. Hyzy, M.D. Dr. Hyzy is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical Center. Dr. Hyzy received his M.D. degree from New York University , New York , NY. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship at the University of Michigan , Ann Arbor , MI . Dr. Hyzy's research interests include the clinical investigation of ARDS and ventilatory strategies used in the management of patients with this disease. Dr. Hyzy serves as the PI of the Clinical Core and Co-Investigator of Project 4.

Marc Moss, M.D. Dr. Moss is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Emory University . Dr. Moss received his M.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania , Philadelphia , PA. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Hospitals, Philadelphia , PA , and Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship at the University of Colorado , Denver , CO. Dr. Moss's research interests include the epidemiology of sepsis and ARDS. Dr. Moss serves as the PI of the Clinical Core consortium site at Emory University Hospitals.

MartinGregory S. Martin, M.D., M.Sc. Dr. Martin is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Emory University . Dr. Martin received his M.D. from Vanderbilt University , Nashville , TN. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship at Vanderbilt University Hospitals. Dr. Martin's research interests include the epidemiology of sepsis and ARDS, with a special interest in the role of colloid therapy in the management of these disorders. Dr. Martin serves as the Co-PI of the Clinical Core consortium site at Emory University Hospitals.

Ronald E. Dechert, R.R.T., Ph.D. Dr. Dechert received his Ph.D. in Health Policy at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, Ann Arbor , MI . He serves as the Project Manager for the Clinical Core. Dr. Dechert has functioned as the Project Manager of several large clinical ARDS trials, including the ARDS Network trial at the University of Michigan site. He also has research interests in the utility outcome predictors in ARDS patients.

MalecMary M. Malec. Ms. Malec is the Program Coordinator for the University of Michigan SCCOR . She has served as Program Coordinator for several large multi-investigator programs at the University of Michigan , including the Acute Lung Injury and Pathobiology of Fibrotic Lung Diseases SCORs and the NIH-sponsored training grant for the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.
