Eric W. Young, M.D.

Research Summary:

Dr. Young’s research has focused on epidemiologic and clinical aspects of chronic renal failure and end-stage renal disease. He is the Principal Investigator at the University of Michigan for the Dialysis Outcomes and Practice Pattern Study (DOPPS), a large observational study of dialysis practices and outcomes. DOPPS is currently ongoing in Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Sweden, Spain, United Kingdom and the United States with a facility and patient sample that is representative of 80% of hemodialysis patients worldwide. This study has also expanded to additional countries in Europe, Canada and Australia/New Zealand. He has served as a Co-Investigator for the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR), the national registry of solid organ transplantation sponsored by the Health Resource Service Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Dr. Young is also the Principal or Co-Investigator on several other national and VA projects, including a large cooperative study of the treatment of hyperhomocystinemia in patients with chronic renal disease.
