Residency Program
![]() Since our program began in 1984, we have been training physicians to become future leaders in the Med-Peds community, whether your future practice will be through the provision of direct patient care within local or international communities, pursuit of subspecialty training and patient care, involvement in medical education or administration, development of public policy and advocacy initiatives, or health services or basic science research. We are delighted to have the opportunity to help prepare you for your career, and hope you'll explore these pages to learn more about these aspects of our program:
Educating You Today Our primary goal is to prepare you to be an outstanding physician and leader in the Med-Peds community. To do this, we draw from our strong institutional resources, diverse patient base, energetic faculty, and wonderful colleagues in the Med-Peds and categorical programs. The University of Michigan is home to one of the top medical centers in the country, and its international reputation attracts patients from around the world. During your training, you will care for patients with a broad spectrum of disease from those with community-acquired pneumonia or RSV to some of the most interesting and unusual diseases seen anywhere in the world. We are fortunate to provide care for a diverse patient population, with patients representing a wide variety of ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
The University of Michigan Health System supports the University Hospital, C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, The University of Michigan Cancer Center, The University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center, The Kellogg Eye Center, in addition to a number of satellite clinics throughout our community. In addition, we are in the process of building a new state of the art Children's Hospital on the medical campus with an anticipated completion date in the fall of 2011. Our training in Internal Medicine is augmented by rotations at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare Center. The University Hospital and C.S.
