Preparing for your first
visit:
Having the proper materials
with you ensures that both you and your physician
can use your time together most effectively. To get
the greatest value from your first visit we suggest
that you:
- Bring all health care insurance cards and your
University of Michigan Health System blue registration
card, if you have one.
- Bring all reports available from other doctors
including medical records, x-rays, pathology slides,
and other pertinent information. Please bring the
actual x-ray and/or pathology slides in addition
to the reports. Your referring physician should
be able to give these to you. To avoid long delays
do not have the reports mailed to us. Please pick
them up from your physician or hospital and bring
them to your visit.
- Bring the name and address of your referring physician
if you want that physician to receive copies of
your medical report.
Allow two to three hours for your first visit. A
complete examination takes time so you should be aware
that your first visit might take several hours. We
provide comprehensive care which means that we spend
a portion of each visit providing you with instruction
or answering your questions. We believe that each
patient should be given the time needed to feel comfortable
with a new diagnosis, medication, or treatment. We
suggest that you use your waiting time to jot down
any information or questions that you wish to discuss
with your physician.
