Prozac (fluoxetine)
Classification: Serotonin-reuptake inhibitor antidepressant
Form: 10mg and 20 mg capsule; 20mg/5ml syrup
Usual Dosage: initial dose of 20mg/day not to exceed 80mg/day
Instructions: Prozac should be administered once daily in the morning and may be taken with or without food. The tablet should be swallowed rather than chewed.
Side effects to report to your doctor
- anxiety
- insomnia or somulence
- nausea / vomiting /diarrhea
- dry mouth
- dizziness
- tremor
- nervousness
- seizure
- rash
Precautions
In order to minimize the opportunity for overdosage, prescriptions for fluoxetine should be written for the smallest quantity of drug consistent with good patient management. Do not give to infants or children. *Do not take if pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant. Do not take if breast feeding.
