Protease Inhibitors stop HIV replication by preventing the enzyme protease from cutting the virus into shorter pieces that it needs to make copies of itself in newly infected cells. New copies are still made but they are defective and not completely formed so they can't infect other cells.
Crixivan (indinavir)
Usual Dosage
2 X 400mg capsules three times per day
Take on empty stomach 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Drink at least 1½ liters of liquid per day. Do not skip a dose. If you miss a dose, do not double the next dose. May be taken with a light, low fat snack.
Side Effects to report to your doctor immediately
- Back or flank pain
- Blood in your urine
- Abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea
Drug Interactions and Incompatibility
- Crixivan interacts with many medications, therefore it is important to notify your doctor of all medications you are currently taking before starting Crixivan.
- If taking DDI, must take the drugs one hour apart
All of your Antiviral Medications must be taken exactly as prescribed, without skipping or altering doses. Please notify you doctor if you have any problems with these or any of your medicines.
