Many different infectious disease problems are seen at
our two hospitals. There are major transplantation
programs in the Departments of Medicine and Surgery,
surgical and medical intensive care units, and a busy
Trauma/Burn Unit at the University Hospital. Fellows
obtain experience as consultants in all these areas.
Our outpatient services at the Taubman Center include
a General Infectious Diseases Clinic, AIDS Clinic,
and Overseas Travel Clinic. There is also an Infectious
Diseases Clinic held one day each week at the Veteran's
Affairs Hospital. Fellows are assigned to a General
Infectious Diseases clinic, either at the Taubman
Center or the VA. Participation in other outpatient
clinical activities is optional.
The UM HIV/AIDS Program is directed by Dr.
Powel Kazanjian. The program also includes a full-time
HIV Primary Care Physician (Dr.
Dan Kaul), dedicated nurses, social workers, and
administrative personnel. Clinical and translational
research is conducted within the context of this growing
program.
