Maha Hadi Hussain, M.D.

Clinical Professor, Department of Internal Medicine

RESEARCH INTERESTS:

Dr. Maha Hussain's research efforts are focused on the development of new
therapies for patients with genitourinary malignancies particularly bladder and
prostate cancer. She serves as principal investigator of multiple ongoing clinical
trials which test the efficacy of intermittent androgen deprivation in patients with
stage D2 prostate cancer (a phase III international trial sponsored by SWOG); a multi-center phase II evaluation of Herceptin, Paclitaxel, carboplatin, and gemcitabine in the treatment of patients with advanced urothelial cancer (sponsored by CTEP); a
phase II trial of epothilon B analogue administered every 21 days in patients with
hormone-refractory prostate cancer (sponsored by SWOG); an evaluation of
weekly Docetaxel and Capecitabine in the treatment of advanced urothelial cancer
(a multi-center clinical trial); an assessment of the utility of primary
chemotherapy with Docetaxel plus Capecitabine in selected patients with newly
diagnosed localized or locally advanced prostate cancer (a multicenter clinical
trial).
