Division of Hematology/Oncology
The Division of Hematology/Oncology is the largest
subspecialty administrative unit in the Department
of Internal Medicine. We care for patients with benign
and malignant disorders of the blood and lymphatic
organs as well as for patients with most types of
solid tumor malignancies. Our Faculty are
on the leading edge of cancer research and are committed
to providing our patients with the very best in patient
care and treatment.
The division is comprised of 60 full time instructional
and clinical track faculty, 14 research track faculty,
14 subspecialty trainees, 35 postdoctoral research
fellows, 28 administrative and clerical staff, 81
laboratory personnel and 37 physician extender staff.
Division faculty, students and laboratory personnel
occupy 38,272 sq. ft. of lab space in several locations
within the Medical Campus: the Cancer Center Building,
MSRB II & III, Simpson Memorial Research Building,
Medical Sciences I Building, Veterans Administrative
Hospital Research Building, Upjohn Center, and the
Life Sciences Institute Building.
In FY07, extramural support for basic and clinical
research was $42.5 million in total costs including
$23.2 million in federal $10 million in non-federal
direct funds. $24.7 million in new grant funding was
awarded in FY07. 903 patients were enrolled in
clinical research protocols.
