| Metabolism, Endocrinology and Diabetes
The Division of Metabolism, Endocrinology and Diabetes (MEND) in conjunction with the Michigan Comprehensive Diabetes Center and the Michigan Diabetes Research and Training Center and other Medical Center units, offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services and educational programs in the general area of endocrine and metabolic disorders. These programs cover all of the traditional areas of endocrinology and metabolism, including:
- diabetes mellitus and diabetes complications
- abnormalities in body weight
- osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease
- abnormalities in calcium regulation and the reproductive axis
- diseases of the thyroid, pituitary and adrenal glands.
In addition, MEND has several multidisciplinary clinics that address specific, endocrine-related diseases. These specialized programs include:
Among the specialized programs are:
- A multidisciplinary program for intensive insulin treatment of diabetes mellitus
- A multidisciplinary Endocrine Oncology Program
that specializes in thyroid and adrenal neoplasms
- A multidisciplinary program for management of diabetes mellitus or thyroid disease during pregnancy
- A multidisciplinary program for the evaluation and treatment of pituitary tumors
- An outpatient endocrine testing unit for the performance of endocrine and metabolic stimulation, suppression and tolerance testing
- A comprehensive outpatient education program for patients with diabetes mellitus
