Target Audience
gastroenterologists, primary care physicians, surgeons, and other health care providers including nurse practitioners, social workers, and physician assistants involved in the management of patients with cirrhosis and advanced liver disease.

Registration Fee
There is a $40 non-refundable fee for this course.

Registration fees include refreshments and educational materials. You are urged to register as soon as you are certain of attending as we cannot guarantee educational materials for participants who are not preregistered by April 20, 2012.

Course Objectives
This course is designed to provide an update on recent developments in the management of patients with advanced liver disease including chronic hepatitis B, chronic hepatitis C, and complications of portal hypertension. Through a series of overview lectures and case presentations, participants will become familiar with the management of viral hepatitis, the indications and outcomes with adult, pediatric, and
living donor liver transplantation, and current organ allocation policies in the U.S.

The goal of this course is for the following objectives to be understood and utilized within your practice:
• Improve understanding of when and how to treat patients with chronic active hepatitis B infection
• Improve understanding of the indications and outcomes with direct acting antiviral agents in combination with peginterferon and ribavirin in patients with chronic hepatitis C
• Improve understanding of the diagnosis and treatment of cirrhotic patients with bleeding and clotting
• Understand current and future approaches to organ allocation
• Expand knowledge of the tools and instruments to assess outcomes in general surgery
• Improve understanding of the indications and outcomes in both the donors and recipients of adult living donor transplants
• Increase awareness of the indications and outcomes in pediatric liver transplantation
• Expand knowledge regarding proposed strategies of how to increase the organ donor pool

Accreditation & Credit Designation
The University of Michigan Medical School is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The University of Michigan Medical School designates this live activity for a maximum of 6 AMA PRA Category 1 credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. An application has been submitted to the American Osteopathic Association for credits. Other credits by specialty may apply. Nurses: The Michigan State Board of Nursing recognizes the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) as an approved provider of continuing medical education for nurses. CME credits awarded at this program may be applied to the 25 hour relicensing requirements, per Rule 2.a., Michigan State Board of Nursing. Social Work: An application has been submitted for CEs, and an approval is pending with the Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative. Transplant Certification: Category I Continuing Education Points for Transplant Certification (CEPTCs) have been approved through the American Board for Transplant Certification (ABTC).
