Course Objectives
Cardiac arrhythmias, particularly atrial fibrillation, affect many patients and are a common clinical problem encountered in daily practice. However, as a result of recent advances in basic and clinical research and development of new technology, our understanding of the mechanisms of arrhythmias and management strategies rapidly evolve. The goal of this course is to present and discuss recent advances in management of cardiac arrhythmias with primary care physicians, internists and cardiologists.
Upon completion of this course the participant will be able to implement:
- recent advances in treatment options in patients with atrial fibrillation and how to select patients for appropriate therapy.
- new guidelines for anticoagulation in patients with atrial fibrillation.
- management strategies of patients with PVCs and ventricular tachycardia.
- better ways to identify patients appropriate for ICD and cardiac resynchronization therapy.
- better management practices of syncope and sudden death syndromes.
