Allergy Immunology Fellowship Application and Selection Process

The Fellowship in Allergy and Clinical Immunology at the University of Michigan is designed to provide sophisticated advanced training in the discipline following the completion of an Internal Medicine and/or Pediatric Residency.  The following criteria will be used for selection of candidates to receive interviews for the position. 

  1. Satisfactory completion or anticipated completion of an ACGME and/or AACOM Accredited Internal Medicine and/or Pediatric Clinical Residency Program in the United States.
  2. Certification or anticipated eligibility for the American Board of Internal Medicine and/or Pediatrics.
  3. Demonstrated academic commitment to the field of Allergy and Clinical Immunology in the form of scholarly publications and research endeavors.
  4. Satisfactory letters of recommendation from the Program Director and three faculty members in their residency program of origin.
  5. Willingness to visit Ann Arbor for a formal interview process.

Applications are accepted through Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) only. In your ERAS application, please include a personal statement, a curriculum vitae, and copies of your ECFMG Certificate and USMLE scores if applicable. In addition, arrange to have your dean's letter, three letters of recommendation (one of which should be  from the Chief of Staff or Program Director), and your medical school transcripts sent to our office through ERAS no later than August 15. Applications to our program made later than August 15, will not be considered.

Once the ERAS application is complete, the information is forwarded to Allergy and Clinical Immunology Selection Committee Faculty for review.  Faculty members of the Selection Committee then complete a written evaluation of each candidate’s application in preparation for selection for an interview. 

Selected candidates will be invited to view the facilities and meet with both clinical and research faculty as well as current program residents. Each interviewer will evaluate the candidate and our Faculty Selection Committee will then rank candidates in order of desirability.  Not all candidates that have been interviewed will necessarily be ranked on the NRMP list that is submitted by the program.  Only those candidates who seem to be most suited for training in this institution will be ranked in order of preference.
