Patients and Visitors
Interpreter Services provides interpreters to all clinics in the University of Michigan Health System. The service is free of charge to both patients and providers. Our interpreters are highly qualified and carefully screened, and can be requested 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Though most of our requests come from the University Hospital and its satellite clinics in Ann Arbor, we also serve UMHS clinics in cities like:
- Brighton
- Canton
- Howell
- Chelsea
- Livonia
- Dexter
- Ypsilanti
If you are more comfortable speaking a language other than English, or if you are hard of hearing, please ask the receptionist to schedule an interpreter when you make your next appointment. We accept appointment requests up to a year in advance. Interpreter Services also provides written translations of patient records and educational materials for all UMHS providers.
Office Hours
Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 8:00pm. During non-office hours, patients may request an after-hours interpreter in most languages by asking UMHS staff. Telephone interpretation is also available in all languages at all hours, in case a regular interpreter cannot be scheduled.
