Inside ViewIt seems like just a week ago that I took down my Christmas tree from last year. It’s hard to believe the holidays are upon us once again. In speaking to Kathleen Robertson from the Employee Assistance Program for this issue’s Taking Care of Our Own article, the discussion turned to the stress that everyone talks about during this time of year. We have a lot more to do, and certainly a lot more money is spent on gifts, food, clothes for special events, travel, charitable donations and the list goes on. Many of us are also dealing with the loss of a loved one, something especially painful during the holidays.

Kathleen is in high demand, and after meeting with her I can see why. She knows stuff. Like how to tap into your inner resources to build capacity to deal with stress. And how to focus on the positive aspects of working in health care to renew your spirit. I walked out of her office feeling quite empowered, like I was in control for once.

As we approach this holiday season with worries about the economy and pandemic flu, I hope you’ll read Kathleen’s story and take some of the EAP’s advice. This institution is made up of employees with extraordinary talents and gifts to share. Just think how great it would be if we all reached inside and found a little extra joy.

Happy holidays.
