Inside ViewI went to summer camp as a kid and still have photo albums and lifelong friends to prove it. So when I became a bona fide grown-up, I donated $100 every year to the camp’s fundraising campaign. I’ve felt guilty for the past few years—I didn’t donate because the economy’s been bad and I’ve worried about daycare expenses and gas prices. I couldn’t help noticing the theme of outreach in this issue of Inside View, which emerged without planning.

For me, it’s a nice reminder that reaching out doesn’t necessarily mean opening my checkbook. U-M clinicians Nancy Woods and Suzanne Connell, our profiled employees, spent nothing to intervene at Target and save a dying woman’s life. The Student Alliance for Global REACH gives medical students the experience of reaching out to distant communities in need of medical care. And, those who volunteer their time to Community Health Services don’t use money to help our own community members, such as the elderly.

These types of stories inspire me, and it’s a good reminder that we can always go a little bit further in our daily lives to reach out and share our talents with others. Enjoy this issue of Inside View.
