Understanding U—managing the ups and downs of life: Got feelings? We all do. And lots of them! That’s why mental and emotional health is such an important part of our overall wellness. It affects everything—our eating, sleeping, relationships, work and physical health. To help U-M faculty and staff manage the ups and downs of life, Michigan Healthy Community has launched a new program called Understanding U. The Understanding U Web site features useful information on common concerns and mental health conditions, a directory of campus and community resources, and confidential online screenings to help you better understand yourself (and others!).
Active U 2008 registration now under way: Ready to take that first step toward becoming more active? Or, take your current fitness routine to the next level? Then become part of Active U 2008, the eight-week physical activity challenge designed for every fitness level. Don’t worry about competing against mega-athletes; program success is based on achieving a physical activity goal you set for yourself. Join individually or form a team with co-workers. This year’s program is the best yet, with Web-based tracking and a message board, free U-M recreation center access and bigger prizes, including free gym memberships and passes, personal training sessions and a chance to win an incredible vacation getaway. There is also a component that supports charities chosen by randomly selected teams and individuals. Learm more and register by Feb. 5. Active U continues through April 1.
