“We have some problems isolating granulocytes from blood,” one Staff Research Exchange member says. “Is anyone familiar with the isolation?”

“We do this daily. I have a manufacturer’s protocol on my desk at the moment. Come by and I’ll give you a copy,” another SRE member responds.

“The Division of Rheumatology is preparing an MCRC proposal intended to foster multidisciplinary research,” begins a post on the Faculty Research Exchange. “…Contact us with any ideas for collaborations.”

So goes the day-to-day communications conducted between faculty and staff members in the U-M Medical School on two new listservs: the Faculty Research Exchange and the Staff Research Exchange.

Suggested during an Office Hours program with Dean Woolliscroft, the listservs offer an online tool to facilitate the exchange of information and idea-sharing between researchers and research staff. Launched in April, the listservs feature more than 1,000 posts from faculty and staff members on topics ranging from exchanging scientific ideas to clarification of scientific protocols to resource location to seeking expertise.
