eMploy Update
Delivers three times the hiring power
Let’s be honest. Getting hired at a world-class health system like UMHS is a huge accomplishment. For most of us, carefully compiling our cover letter, application, bid form and two copies of our resume was the first step. It was a complex process involving many trees and human resources, and a lot of time. So, when the University launched eMploy, an automated job posting and employment system, in May 2006, it was a major step bringing us in line with industry standards and streamlining the process for applicants and application processing personnel.
One year later, the system has achieved many key goals. Most notably, eMploy tripled the number of job applicants last year—an astounding 65,282 bids were received and more than 5,000 positions were filled. Early numbers show at least four days are saved in the hiring process, not to mention the massive reduction in paper use.
“Within the first few weeks of launching eMploy, we were able to see applicants from all over the country,” says Jan Mulcrone, director, UMHS Human Resources Services. “This improvement was just one part of the goal to build the size and quality of our applicant pool.”
A key advantage of eMploy is that it links all aspects of the hiring process. Managers view the submitted resumes online. When a candidate is selected, a flow of standardized communications takes place, from offer letters to welcome letters to uniqname selection. When a new UMHS employee arrives at orientation, many steps have already been accomplished electronically on the individual’s behalf.
Based on internal user feedback, changes were made in June to improve the display of resumes and searching capabilities for applicants. eMploy will move to an internal server this summer, saving the University thousands of dollars each month.
What’s next? An upgrade including cool features like a shopping cart for preferred jobs and recommendations to candidates based on previous job searches is scheduled for 2009.
