FGP/Ambulatory Care Integration
Alignment will transform the patient experience and enhance the practice environment
Creating both the ideal patient and practice environment is the goal behind a recently approved plan to integrate the Health System’s Faculty Group Practice and Ambulatory Care. During the next year, teams of faculty and staff will work to combine the two in terms of operations, finances and governance. Workgroups already have spent months developing recommendations for how to begin; the coming months will involve finalizing details of those initial ideas, which were approved by the project’s Executive Steering Committee in late January.
The project goals are to:
- Improve our ability to care for patients in our clinics
- Increase faculty input into and oversight of the clinical practice to improve the clinic and supporting services operations
- Improve overall satisfaction with the work environment among faculty and staff
- Increase our ability to recruit and retain the finest faculty and staff
Generally, the workgroup recommendations encompass:
- A new governance structure for the Faculty Group Practice that provides significant department chair accountability and authority while also engaging general faculty members in the management of our faculty’s clinical practice
- A clinical operations management structure, including decision-making processes for such things as hiring, resource planning and setting practice standards at the unit level
- A new financial model that balances the interests of components of the Health System
