Around UMHS
A glimpse into some some major happenings in the Health System community
The new U-M Cardiovascular Center at the corner of Observatory and Ann streets officially opens for patients on June 11, but faculty and staff can take a look at this new “front door” for most U-M adult heart and vascular care at a grand-opening event on the afternoon of June 7. The event will include tours of the state-of-the-art operating rooms, inpatient units, interventional and diagnostic suites, clinic area and more. Come take a look at this six-story, 350,000-square-foot building before opening day.
Help create the ideal UMHS employee experience by taking the 2007 Employee Engagement Survey for HHC and Medical School staff. The survey will be open from April 16 to May 4, 2007. Your honest, thoughtful answers provide important insight into how well the Health System is doing in its goal to be an employer of choice—and what can be done better to successfully achieve this goal. Look for e-mails with additional information and a link to the survey. You also can access the survey from the UMHS internal home page beginning April 16.
The Health System’s Division of Allergy headquarters is on the move this April…from Taubman Health Center to Domino’s Farms. In addition to providing regular allergy clinic services and allergy shots, the new site includes the U-M Food Allergy Center, a regional referral site for pediatric and adult patients with food allergies and other conditions. Allergy’s satellite locations in Reichert, Livonia and Briarwood remain unchanged.
On April 20 at Hill Auditorium, the U-M Life Sciences Orchestra will present its spring concert—a benefit for the Ronald McDonald House within the C.S. Mott Children’s & Women’s Replacement Hospital facility and the Gifts of Art Bedside Music program. The concert features guest violinist Jourdan Urbach, a 14-year-old Juilliard-trained prodigy. Part of the Health System’s Gifts of Art program, the lSO is a symphonic orchestra made up of faculty, staff and students from the U-M life sciences community, including the Hospitals & Health Centers, Medical School, and schools of Dentistry, Public Health, Pharmacy, Nursing and lSA.
