Dr. Margaret Gyetko's research addresses lung inflammation and immune responses, with emphasis on the role of urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA and the urokinase receptor (uPAR). Areas of investigation include the interaction of the uPA/uPAR system with cytokine networks, and the subsequent effects on immune and inflammatory responses; and the requirement for uPA/uPAR for leukocyte/lymphocyte activation and recruitment. Ongoing work in the laboratory investigates the uPA/uPAR system on the molecular and biochemical levels using both in vitro and in vivo models, including transgenic murine models.
