The Program in Biological Sciences determines the requirements for admission, which include:

  • Bachelor's degree in a biological science, chemistry, or a related field
  • Extensive research experience in the biological sciences (at least three months)
  • A competitive grade point average
  • Graduate Record Examination scores
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Interview

Most successful applicants will have had a thorough preparation in chemistry, physics, mathematics, and biology including undergraduate courses in genetics and biochemistry.

An application form can be obtained by email (PIBS@umich.edu), by telephone (toll free 877-294-0120, 734-647-7005), by FAX (734-647-7022), or from the PIBS website. PIBS accepts applications from late August through December 15 each year.
