In December 2000, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services issued privacy regulations under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, also known as HIPAA. The privacy regulations generally become effective on April 14, 2003.

The privacy of patient health information always has been a priority at the UMHS. This website is intended to provide UMHS patients and families with information about their privacy rights and the University's commitment to protect those rights. This website is under development and will be updated periodically.
