Education and Training

The University of Michigan Hepatology Program is one of the largest hepatology programs in the country. The twelve full-time faculty have diverse expertise in many liver diseases and are actively engaged in clinical, translational, and basic science research on viral hepatitis, hepatocellular carcinoma, liver transplantation, fatty liver disease, Wilson disease, cholestasis, and hepatic inflammatory response. The Hepatology faculty provide comprehensive training in the management of acute and chronic liver diseases for our GI fellows and fourth-year advanced Liver Transplant fellows.

Research training

In addition to direct mentoring by one of the Hepatology faculty, fellows have the opportunity to pursue a 1- to 2-year Master degree course in Epidemiology, Clinical Research, and Biostatistics.
