Hot Topic
Should we add a "D" to the "ABCs" of good health? Researchers at the University of Michigan have found that vitamin D from sunlight plays a key role in preventing heart disease and boosting good health.

Women's Health
Women are increasingly savvy to the need for regular screenings to protect their health. But recent research by a team of U-M radiologists warns that colon cancer screenings, while effective, are often overlooked.

Children's Health
Many people think today's cars are safer than ever. But a U-M safety expert cautions that many parents underestimate the risk their children face in cars, both while riding in the back seat, and while in parked cars on hot days.

Heart Health
For once, having a cold heart is a good thing. Many children with abnormal heart rates face restrictions on exercise and other everyday activities. Now, C.S. Mott Children's Hospital offers a unique treatment option that freezes small parts of the heart to relieve the problem.

Mental Health
Fibromyalgia is so commonly linked with depression that many physicians treat depression, rather than pain, as the main symptom. Research from the U-M Chronic Pain and Fatigue Research Program shows that pain needs to be treated as a separate, important, symptom.

Cancer Treatment
Pancreatic cancer is difficult to detect and treat. Now researchers from the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center have developed a technique to distinguish cancer tissue from normal cells at early stages, boosting hopes for early diagnosis and treatment.

Chronic Illness
Are some asthma and allergies the side-effects of medication? U-M researchers have concluded that may be the case. When antibiotics destroy bacteria in the digestive tract, it changes our immune response, which then may lead to coughing, sneezing, and wheezing.
