Women's Health
Freezing tumorous tissues may someday be considered a key technique in the fight against cancer. UMHS researchers have demonstrated that a technique already in use to freeze and kill benign breast masses also appears to kill small malignant breast tumors.

Children's Health
A leukemia diagnosis is never good news. There is some positive news, however, for parents of children who receive the diagnosis. A UMHS oncologist explains why survival rates for children with leukemia have risen from 50 percent to 85 percent in the last 20 years.

Heart Health
Is newer always better? Analysis led by a UMHS physician indicates that doctors may tend to overrate newer, higher-priced medicines, and prescribe these more often than less expensive, but just as effective, alternatives.

Mental Health
Is it "You Are What You Eat," or "You Are How Much You Eat?" Maybe the latter, especially for kids. A study lead by a UMHS physician found a strong connection between childhood obesity and behavior problems.

Chronic Illness
Does the shoe fit? Many people with diabetes turn to orthotic insoles to lessen the risk of infection and side effects. Now, UMHS orthotists have developed a new insole design that reduces discomfort and further decreases risks for wearers.

Cancer Treatment
A 15-minute scan in a high-tech medical imaging machine may be all it takes to detect urinary system cancers and other problems in high-risk patients, according to new research from UMHS radiologists. The technique holds promise for identifying cancers at an earlier, and more treatable, stage.

Hot Topics
Feeling feverish, headachy, and your whole body aches? Like a lot of other people, you've caught the flu. A UMHS physician discusses how you can recognize the symptoms, minimize your discomfort, and reduce your risk for complications.
