Harmony BonesFOLK MUSIC
Harmony Bones
Harmony Bones is a quintet of long-time veterans of the Ann Arbor folk music scene. The band consists of Laz Slomovits (of Gemini) Tom Voiles and Linda Teaman (of Nutshell), Jeanne Mackey and Eric Fithian. Their sound features rich vocal harmonies on old and new songs, and an array of folk instruments — guitar, mandolin, flute, pennywhistle, fiddle, banjo, bass, percussion and sitar. Their collective name, Harmony Bones, comes from an acupuncture point that harmonizes imbalances and promotes clear thinking, seeing and hearing.

Royal Garden TrioVINTAGE SWING
Royal Garden Trio Royal Garden Trio listen

The Royal Garden Trio plays swing music reminiscent of the 1930s, but with an ear toward the future of improvisational jazz. The partnership of Brian Delaney on guitar, Tom Bogardus on tenor guitar and clarinet, and Mike Karoub on cello is synergetic. Blending a sound of the Parisian café with the American nightclub, they manage to be fresh, original and sophisticated without being exotic. The group covers an exciting repertoire including traditional jazz, classic show tunes and gypsy-style swing. You might have heard the Royal Garden Trio's original music as the soundtrack for the DIA's TV commercials, "Let Yourself Go".

Bob Sweet TrioPIANO JAZZ
Bob Sweet Trio

Tad Weed is a powerhouse of a pianist who has performed with some of the greatest names in jazz including John Patitucci, Mundell Lowe, Carmen McCrae, Charles Lloyd and Woody Herman. Bandleader Bob Sweet (drums) and Kurt Krahnke (bass) have been part of the southeastern Michigan jazz scene for decades, so this is piano jazz at its finest. Anything might happen when they get together, but the performance is always fueled by creative group interplay. Whether they're playing jazz standards or original pieces, you can count on a fresh, dynamic sound, distinctively flavored with the soul of the Detroit jazz tradition.
