SlomovitsFOLK MUSIC OF THE '60s
Folk Revival Band
Come hear "Blowin' in the Wind," "If I Had a Hammer" and other classic songs by Pete Seeger; Bob Dylan; Peter, Paul and Mary; Simon and Garfunkel and others. In addition, the show will feature traditional American folk songs performed on guitar, fiddle, mandolin, "bones" and folk flutes. The Folk Revival Band consists of twin brothers San and Laz Slomovits (also known as Gemini, Ann Arbor's nationally known children's folk musicians), who came of age during the 60s. They will be joined on drums by U-M School of Music graduate and local music teacher, Mike Morrison.

RossFINGERSTYLE GUITAR & UKULELE
Gerald Ross
Successfully blending the sounds of jazz, blues and swing, Gerald Ross has created a guitar style uniquely his own. Whether he is playing swing, blues, pop or tropical flavored melodies, Ross’ good humor and outstanding musical talent are captivating. Ross appeared on A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor, and he has performed with such greats as Arlo Guthrie and Bonnie Raitt.

Mondro, Ha & ShlianCHINESE KITE MAKING WORKSHOP
Anne Mondro & Matthew Shlian
Anne Mondro and Matthew Shlian will demonstrate the art of making a traditional Chinese kite and various paper folding techniques. Watch as bamboo is spliced to create the kite frame and learn to paint a traditional Chinese symbol using watercolor paint. Matt Shlian will also demonstrate how to fold paper to inspire you to create your own contemporary kite structure. In the Gifts of Art gallery where the workshop will be held, an exhibition of the work of Chinese Kite Master Ha Yiqi will be on display. Mondro and Shlian recently studied Chinese kite making with Master Ha in Beijing. See a video here about the trip.

Delaney20TH CENTURY SONG & SWING
Brian Delaney & the Pumpkin Rollers
Guitarist Brian Delaney forges onward musically, with luminaries James Dapogny on acoustic piano and Tom Bogardus on clarinet. You’ll hear 20th Century popular song favorites as well as classics from the Swing Era and maybe even a ghostly melody. This lively trio is sure to put a smile on your face with its in-the-moment, fun-loving musicality.

Cadenza Too
Vocalist Stephanie VanAlstine, of the vocal/piano duo Cadenza Too, is a senior at Eastern Michigan University in the Theatre Department and an experienced singer and actress. She has performed recently in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Romeo and Juliet, among others. Jim Vincent is an experienced piano soloist and accompanist in both classical and jazz genres, having worked professionally in both the US and Europe. He is especially interested in exploring the horizons of improvised music.

U-M Music TeachersCLASSICAL PIANO MUSIC
U-M Chapter of the Music Teachers National Association
Founded in 1876, the Music Teachers National Association is the oldest and largest professional music teachers’ organization in the United States. As the collegiate chapter of the organization, U-M undergraduate, masters and doctoral piano students from the School of Music, Theatre and Dance join more than 24,000 independent and collegiate teachers nationwide dedicated to furthering the art of music through performance, composition and scholarly research. For this concert, musicians from the University of Michigan chapter will perform solo and duo selections for the piano.

Mack & WeiCHINESE ERHU, GUZHENG & PIANO MUSIC
Xiao Dong Wei with Yuki Mack
Xiao Dong Wei is a classically trained Chinese musician who plays the erhu (two-string Chinese violin) and guzheng (Chinese plucked zither), among others. She studied at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing.  Wei has performed in China, Japan, Canada and the US, where she performed as soloist for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. For this concert, she teams up with Yuki Mack, of the award winning Mack Sisters Piano Duo. Wei and Mack play music from both the classical Asian and Western repertoire. This concert is made possible in part by the U-M Confucius Institute.
