Janelle Reichman Trio

Ann Arbor native and jazz clarinetist and saxophonist Janelle Reichman lived in New York City for a decade, where she performed as a featured soloist with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, among others. Joining her is pianist, composer, and educator Ellen Rowe, the Arthur F. Thurnau Professor of Jazz and Contemporary Improvisation at U-M. Rowe's latest project "Momentum – Portraits of Women in Motion" will be released in 2019. On bass is Marion Hayden, who is part of the great Detroit jazz legacy and has been involved in countless ensembles throughout her career, including Straight Ahead. Big Fun TrioST. PATRICK'S DAY CONCERT
Big Fun Trio

The Big Fun Trio has been playing dances around the Midwest since 2012, ranging from Toronto to Columbus, and many points in between. The trio is composed of Marty Somberg, one of the best Irish fiddlers around who has hosted the Sunday night Irish music session at Conor O’Neill’s pub in Ann Arbor for 17 years; Brad Battey, one of the region’s most sought after contra fiddlers; and Myron Grant, on guitar, harmonica, vocals and leader of this and many other bands. To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, they’ll play Irish and New England contra tunes, Old Time, swing and Texas swing, as well as some original tunes. Look for live stream video on Gifts of Art Facebook.

Joachim AngsterVIOLA & PIANO
Joachim Angster & Chiao-Yu Wu

This performance is a part of the U-M Community Outreach Performance Series of the School of Music, Theatre & Dance (SMTD). A native of Strasbourg, France, violist Joachim Angster earned a master's degree from the Lausanne Haute Ecole de Musique in Switzerland before coming to the US to pursue his doctorate in viola performance at U-M, under the mentorship of Caroline Coade and Yitzahk Schotten. He has performed across Europe, Asia, and the US as a soloist, and as a chamber and orchestral musician. He will be joined by Chiao-Yu Wu on piano. Chelsea GalloCHAMBER MUSIC
U-M Life Sciences Orchestra Ensemble

This ensemble is composed of players from the U-M Life Sciences Orchestra (LSO), a program of Gifts of Art at Michigan Medicine that provides performance opportunities for the faculty, staff, students, scientists, volunteers and alumni in medical, health science and life science disciplines at the university. Leading the group is LSO music director Chelsea Gallo. Other members are Allie Lahnala, violin; Steph Kim, viola; Alejandro Uribe, cello; Edward Norton, horn; Marc Gerstein, bassoon; and William Burnham, clarinet. This performance is a part of the U-M Community Outreach Performance Series of the School of Music, Theatre & Dance (SMTD). The Blue Flute Choir is an ensemble comprised of flute students led by U-M Professor Amy Porter. Porter graduated from the Juilliard School with further studies at the Mozarteum Academy in Salzburg, Austria. Winner of the 3rd Kobe International Flute Competition, the Paris Ville d’Avray Competition, as well as the U-M Henry Russel Award for distinguished scholarship and teaching ability, Amy Porter performs as a soloist and serves on international juries around the globe. The U-M Department of Dance First-Year Touring Company (FYTC) has a 30-year tradition of performing in the Ann Arbor community. Directed by Associate Professor Robin Wilson, the FYTC is a central part of the curriculum of all first-year dance majors. This 2019 season opening performance features the premiere of a new work by New York City-based Summation Dance Company choreographers Sumi Clements and Taryn Vander Hoop; Rainbow Etude based on Donald McKayle’s 1959 masterwork Rainbow Round My Shoulder; and works by student choreographers Sherry Lin, Sally Butin and Shea Carponter-Broderick. Life Sciences OrchestraSYMPHONY ORCHESTRA CONCERT
U-M Life Sciences Orchestra

The Life Sciences Orchestra (LSO), a Gifts of Art program, was founded in the fall of 2000 by a small group of musicians and artists at the U-M Medical School and Health System. It provides performance opportunities for the many faculty, scientists, staff, students and alumni in life science disciplines at the university who have previous musical training but few opportunities to play. For its spring concert in the celebrated Hill Auditorium, the LSO will perform pieces by Esa-Pekka Salonen, Mozart, Nielsen and Tchaikovsky. There will be a pre-concert lecture by Chelsea Gallo, the Gilbert S. Omenn, M.D. Music Director at 6:15 pm.

San, Emily & Brian

San and Emily Slomovits, with special guest Brian Brill, will sing and play songs from classic Broadway musicals, such as Oklahoma, The Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof, Follies and more. San Slomovits is one half of the nationally known folk duo, Gemini. His daughter, Emily Slomovits, has studied classical violin for over ten years and graduated from EMU in Musical Theatre and German Language & Literature. Camila Ballario listen
Camila Ballario is an Argentine-born American singer. She grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan and received her bachelor’s degree in classical vocal performance from the University of Michigan. Having performed in a wide range of musical styles in addition to classical, Ballario has developed a wonderful sound of her own.
